DR. SEEMA DUTTA

HEAD OF DEPARTMENT - SOCIOLOGY

Graduated from St. Xavier’s College Kolkata, with Sociology Honors. Completed MA and MPhil in Sociology from Jadavpur University. Cleared UGC NET in 2011. Submitted PHD Thesis on Tattoo: An Inquiry in its Different Dimension at the Department of Sociology, Jadavpur University under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Bipul Kumar Bhadra. Before joining Sister Nivedita University, was engaged as State Aided College Teacher, Category – I at Jogamaya Devi College under Calcutta University. I was also engaged as a Visiting Faculty in the Department of Sociology, Rabindra Bharati University and Jadavpur University. Also taught at a Visiting Faculty at West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences. Research Interest is Sociology of Science Technology and Society, Sociology of Crime and Deviance and Sociology of Gender. Life member Indian Sociological Society. Coordinated the Women Entrepreneurship Development Program, Sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, in 2018 at Jogamaya Devi College. Presented papers at various National and International Conferences.

DR. SEEMA DUTTA biography

Dr. Seema Dutta is the esteemed Head of the Department of Sociology at Sister Nivedita University. Her academic journey began with a Sociology Honors degree from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, followed by an M.A. and an M.Phil in Sociology from Jadavpur University. She demonstrated her academic excellence early on by clearing the UGC NET exam in 2011. Dr. Dutta has recently submitted her Ph.D. thesis on "Tattoo: An Inquiry in its Different Dimension" under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Bipul Kumar Bhadra at Jadavpur University.

Before joining Sister Nivedita University, Dr. Dutta contributed significantly to academia as a State Aided College Teacher, Category – I at Jogamaya Devi College under Calcutta University. Her teaching career also includes engagements as a Visiting Faculty in the Department of Sociology at Rabindra Bharati University and Jadavpur University, as well as at the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences.

Dr. Dutta's research interests are diverse and include the Sociology of Science, Technology and Society, Sociology of Crime and Deviance, and Sociology of Gender. She is a life member of the Indian Sociological Society, reflecting her active engagement with the broader sociological community. Dr. Dutta has a strong record of presenting papers at both national and international conferences, contributing to the discourse on various sociological issues.

In addition to her teaching and research, Dr. Dutta has been involved in significant projects and initiatives. Notably, she coordinated the Women Entrepreneurship Development Program sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, in 2018 at Jogamaya Devi College. This initiative underscores her commitment to empowering women and fostering entrepreneurship through education.
