MS. ATUFAH NISHAT

VISITING FACULTY - SOCIOLOGY

Atufah Nishat is a visiting Faculty in the Department of Sociology.  She did her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata, and completed her Master of Arts in Sociology from Presidency University, Kolkata. Her master’s research work titled ‘Placing the Dalit Women at the Intersections: A Sociological Study of Dom Women of Kolkata’ got published in Contemporary Voice of Dalit Journal in 2022. Currently, she is pursuing her M.Phil from the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences Calcutta, Kolkata. Her current research looks at the question of Muslim women’s agency and citizenship rights.

Ms. Atufah Nishat brings a strong academic background and a passion for sociological research to her role as Visiting Faculty in the Department of Sociology at Sister Nivedita University, Kolkata. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata, setting a solid foundation for her academic journey. She furthered her education by earning a Master of Arts in Sociology from Presidency University, Kolkata, where she excelled in her studies.

Her master’s research, titled ‘Placing the Dalit Women at the Intersections: A Sociological Study of Dom Women of Kolkata,’ was published in the Contemporary Voice of Dalit Journal in 2022, showcasing her dedication to exploring marginalized communities' social dynamics. Currently, Ms. Nishat is pursuing her M.Phil from the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences Calcutta, Kolkata, focusing on the question of Muslim women’s agency and citizenship rights. Her research interests reflect a commitment to understanding and advocating for social justice and equality within diverse cultural contexts.
