DEAN - SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES
Professor (Dr.) Surajit C Mukhopadhyay is currently the Dean of the School of Social Sciences, at Sister Nivedita University. He has held senior positions in several universities and research institutions in the faculty as well as in administration and has been a member of the apex social science body in India – the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR). A consultant for several national and international bodies including the government of Switzerland and the Netherlands, he has been actively engaged in field research while serving as a Fellow at the Centre for Studies in the Social Sciences, Calcutta, and has supervised Ph.D. dissertations as well as projects of international interns of UNICEF.
Academic Background:
Professional Experience: Professor (Dr.) Surajit C Mukhopadhyay currently serves as the Dean of the School of Social Sciences at Sister Nivedita University. He has held senior academic and administrative positions in various universities and research institutions and has been a member of the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR), the apex social science body in India.
Consultancy and Research: Dr. Mukhopadhyay has served as a consultant for numerous national and international organizations, including the governments of Switzerland and the Netherlands. He has been actively involved in field research and served as a Fellow at the Centre for Studies in the Social Sciences, Calcutta. He has supervised numerous Ph.D. dissertations and projects for international interns of UNICEF.
Teaching and Founding Faculty: Dr. Mukhopadhyay is a founding faculty member of the Department of Sociology at the University of Burdwan, West Bengal. His teaching and research have taken him around the world, presenting papers and lectures in countries such as the UK, Cyprus, Hong Kong, Nepal, Russian Federation, France, Costa Rica, South Africa, and Indonesia, in addition to universities and research institutions in India.
Research Interests and Publications: Dr. Mukhopadhyay specializes in political sociology. He has published extensively in both national and international journals and contributed chapters to books on sociology and political sociology. Currently, he is co-editing a book to be published by Routledge, London.
