Dr. Kankana Debnath brings a wealth of academic and research experience, coupled with a dedication to addressing critical climate change challenges and advancing Indo-Pacific Studies.

 

Dr. Kankana Debnath biography

Dr. Kankana Debnath holds a Doctorate and M.Phil. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and completed her Masters and Bachelors degrees from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Her doctoral thesis titled “Role of Regional Organizations in Tackling Climate Change in South Pacific Island Countries, 1997 to 2016” showcases her expertise in Indo-Pacific Studies and Climate Change. Dr. Debnath is passionate about addressing dynamic climate change issues, particularly focusing on the impacts in South Pacific Islands.

During her academic journey, Dr. Debnath conducted extensive research at the University of Hawaii, Manoa, and East West Centre, Hawaii, USA, studying the effects of climate change on South Pacific Islands. She has contributed significantly to her field with publications covering various aspects of Indo-Pacific Studies and Climate Change. Her research findings have been presented at numerous national and international conferences, where she actively engages in academic discourse.

Dr. Debnath has also played pivotal roles in coordinating and managing academic programs, seminars, and conferences at both Jawaharlal Nehru University and Jadavpur University. Her multifaceted interests include Korean culture, and she has served as a Global Honourary Reporter for Korea.net, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Republic of Korea, from 2022 to 2024.
